Fred Alessandrini, 85, of North Haven, died July 22 at Yale-New Haven Hospital.  He was the husband of Maureen Woodward Alessandrini.  He was born in New Haven on April 20, 1927, son of the late Joseph and Anna Aiudi Alessandrini.  Fred had served his country faithfully in the U.S. Navy during World War II and in the Seabees. He had also been a plumber for the Plumber Union Local No. 777 for 35 years. Fred was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed fishing. 

Besides his wife, he is survived by two children, Sherrie Sperzel and her husband Ronald of Wallingford and Stephen Ryder of Meriden; two grandchildren, Christopher and Shawn McGril; his brother, Danny Alessandrini and his wife Florence of New Britain; and two sisters, Jennie Ortolan of North Haven and Phyllis Bird of North Haven.  He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers-in-law, Giulio Ortolan and Louis Bird.

His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., North Haven, on Thursday, July 26, at 10:30 a.m.  Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 9 to 10:30 a.m. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Barnabas Church at 11 a.m., followed by burial with full military honors in All Saints Cemetery.
