    Lloyd D. “Sandy” Sanderson, 92, Guilford and Leetes Island

    Lloyd D. “Sandy” Sanderson, 92, of Guilford and Leetes Island, died on Oct. 19.  He was the loving husband of 65 years to the late Christine Reichers Sanderson. Sandy was born in Meriden on May 7, 1920, and moved to Franklin Square, New York, where he lived for over 40 years.

    Sandy retired after 40 years of devoted service to Pan American Airways.  His greatest passions were the sea, where he would swim and sail, and airplanes. Sandy was a successful worldwide sunfish sailor and national champion, and he was also a multiple Senior Olympic medalist, including his first place victory in the 1984 regatta in Pearl Harbor. 

    He is survived by his children, Christine Marinis, Barbara Glass, and Douglas Sanderson; his grandchildren, Michael Marinis, Daniel Marinis, Trista Krier, Megara Sanderson, and Aaron Glass; and his seven great-grandchildren. 

    Services will be held at North Guilford Congregational Church, 159 Ledge Hill Rd., Guilford, on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 12 noon.  Friends may call prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 12 noon at the North Guilford Congregational Church.
