    Lawrence H. Billingsley, Clinton

    Larry Billingsley, 67, of Clinton, died peacefully at Yale-New Haven Hospital on Dec. 5, after a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Lisabeth Billingsley, an artist and writer. Larry was born in San Antonio, Texas, son of the late Howard and Marge Billingsley, and he and spent his childhood in Elkins, New Hampshire and Kittery, Maine.

    Larry graduated from Saint Paul’s Academy and received his bachelor’s degree from Yale University. After graduating from college, he moved to Connecticut and settled in Hamden. He married the late Francis Burns and is survived by two sons, Todd Billingsley of Mountain View, California, and Benjamin Billingsley and his wife Olivia Cassin Billingsley of Glen Rock, New Jersey, the parents of Larry’s two adored grandchildren, Louisa, 6, and Oscar, 3 years old.

    Larry had an impressive work history, finalized by his years as a senior software salesperson with IBM, New York City, where his territory was the Wall Street district. Larry was also an accomplished sailor and loved to explore the waters of Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts with his son Ben.

    When Larry was 65 years old, he took a course from local artist and author Ken Shuey, which sparked his interest in painting with watercolors. He became active in the Madison Art Society’s plein air weekly painting group, as well as their Winter studio painting group. He was a member of the Madison Art Society, the Essex Art Association, and the Lyme Art Association. He was also featured in an article in INK Magazine, and his work is in collections in the U.S. and Europe.

    Besides his loving wife, two sons, daughter-in-law, and his two grandchildren, Larry is survived by a brother, Rob Billingsley and his wife of Honolulu, Hawaii, as well as his nephew Preston.
