    Louis 'Uncle Louie' Mingione, 87, East Haven

    Louis “Uncle Louie” Mingione, 87, of East Haven, husband of the late Rose Onofrio Mingione, died Nov. 3 with his family by his side. Louis was born Dec. 23, 1925 to Mary Lauria and Pasquale Mingione.

    Louis was a retired member of the New Haven Fire Department, and served as East Haven Fire Marshal, Fire Commissioner and Democratic District 3 Captain.

    He was responsible for resurrecting the Foxon Park World War II memorial, and worked tirelessly to raise funds and gather names of the fallen in order to recreate the monument. His dream came true when he was able to hold the dedication ceremony in May 2012. Louis was especially proud of his family, and they all brought him much joy. He touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed.

    He is survived by his sister Marie Onofrio; his brother Robert and his wife Patricia Mingione; sisters-in-law Lena Tramontano and Ann Yeomans; brother-in-law John Onofrio; his daughter MaryAnn DeChello; son Michael Mingione and his wife Debra; grandchildren Michelle and her husband Walt Spader, Nicole and her husband Lou DiNola, Michael Mingione, Tara and her husband Elder Romero, and Tracy Mingione; great-grandchildren Lynnsey, Katelyn, Ava, Ella, Lucia, and Mila; and many nieces and nephews, whom he loved as his own. He was predeceased by his brother Pat; and son-in-law Edward DeChello.

    His funeral procession will leave the Porto Funeral Home, 234 Foxon Rd. (RT 80), East Haven, Thursday, Nov. 7 at 10:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated in Our Lady of Pompeii Church at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday, Nov. 6 from 4-8 p.m. The Porto Funeral Home, East Haven, is in charge of arrangements.
