Raymond J. Cairns, Jr., 82, of Old Saybrook, died on July 6 at Gladview Rehab Center in Old Saybrook. He was born

Sept. 1, 1931 in Albany, New York, son of Marguerite (Fasoldt) and Raymond J. Cairns.

Ray graduated from Albany Academy and Norwich University, Vermont. He became a jet fighter pilot and maintenance officer in the U.S. Air Force, traveling the world with his wife, Elizabeth, and three sons Jeffery Steven, David Scott, and Mitchell Adam.

His second career was in sales at Mason Keller, then Bosch; he retired in 1996. He loved cars, antiques, art, woodworking, jazz, and home buying and beautification.

A service was held July 12 at Swan Funeral Home, Old Saybrook. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in memory of Raymond Cairns to Raymond J. Cairns, Jr., '54 Scholarship, Norwich University Development, 158 Harmon Dr., Northfield, VT 05663; and to the ChildFund International, www.childfund.org.
