    Waterford 13s open World Series play today

    Waterford opens play in the Babe Ruth Baseball 13-year-old World Series today at Glen Allen, Va.

    Waterford plays Arizona champion Chandler/Mesa in the first game of the tournament beginning at 10 a.m. Waterford has a bye Sunday before playing three other pool play games in the American Division. Waterford plays Greenville, N.C., on Monday, Aug. 18 at 7 p.m.; Gainesville/Haymarket, Va., Tuesday, Aug. 19 at 4 p.m.; and Flathead Valley, Mont., Wednesday, Aug. 20 at 10 a.m.

    The top three teams in both the American and National divisions advance. The two division winners get a bye into the semifinals on Friday, Aug. 22, and the other four teams will play in the quarterfinals on Thursday, Aug. 21. The championship game will be Friday, Aug. 22 at 7:30 p.m.

    The Waterford 15-year-old Babe Ruth team, which also reached the World Series, begins play Aug. 21 in Longview, Wash.
