Black Wolves unveil jerseys
Mohegan - The New England Black Wolves of the National Lacrosse League unveiled their home and road uniform jerseys Thursday. The Black Wolves, who will play their home games at Mohegan Sun Arena, relocated from Philadelphia in August.
The jersey design incorporates elements that reflect both the Mohegan Tribe and the Native American heritage of the game.
"Not only are we proud to have this game with its Native American origins come home to roost, but we are proud that the name conveys the pride we have in our Mohegan heritage as we are known as the 'Wolf Clan' (Mohiks) in Algonquian history," Mohegan Tribal Council Chairman Kevin Brown said. "I think this uniform design captures the essence of our history and its ties to the ancient game of lacrosse."
Mohegan Sun and the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority (MTGA) entered into a partnership with the owners of the Philadelphia Wings on Aug. 6.
The Black Wolves open the season Jan. 2, hosting the Buffalo Bandits at 7 p.m.
