    Local roundup: Killingly football team rolls past Stonington 34-14

    Stonington — Spencer Lockwood's 53-yard touchdown run on the second play of the game helped Killingly High School's football team earn a 34-14 win over Stonington on Friday night.

    Lockwood led the Redmen (2-0) with 205 yards rushing and senior quarterback Kyle Derosier threw four touchdown passes.

    "We played well tonight, we have to sew a few things up but overall I'm pleased with our performance on the road," Killingly coach Chad Neal said. "Stonington is a very gritty team"

    The Bears are 1-1. Owen Donahue scored on a 2-yard run in the fourth quarter for the Bears and Kyle Whippled returned a fumble 23 yards for another TD.

    Killingly plays an anticipated game at New London next week.

    "They're a talented team," Neal said of the Whalers.

    In another game:

    • Capital/Achievement First of Hartford built a 40-6 halftime lead on the way to a 54-14 win over the Thames River Crusaders in a Constitution State Conference game.

    The Crusaders (1-1, 1-1) played most of the game without starting quarterback Jared Neal, who was injured after completing just one pass and was held out the rest of the game.

    Trey Stimson had 13 carries for 62 yards and a touchdown for Thames River while Baysheer Thomas added five carries for 28 yards and a touchdown.

    H.S. volleyball

    • Preonna Boyd-Cannon had four digs, three aces and three blocks, but Grasso Tech fell to Putnam, 3-0, in the Constitution State Conference. Game scores were 25-14, 25-20 and 25-16. Haley Beal contributed seven service points for the Eagles.

    • Madison Bodley had 19 kills, seven aces and seven digs as Norwich Tech defeated Goodwin Tech 25-16, 22-25, 25-20, 25-16. Vanessa Gumbs added 15 service points, four aces, nine kills and eight digs for the Warriors (3-1) and Chloe Guzman finished with 14 assists.

    • Sarah Spracklin recorded four aces and six kills, and Savanna Galucci contributed nine aces to help Wheeler defeat New London, 3-0. Nikki Collins added four aces, five kills and three digs for the Lions (1-2), who won 27-25, 25-23 and 25-21. The Whalers are 0-3.

    • Unbeaten Lyman Memorial defeated Montville 25-9, 25-11 and 25-9 as Katy Konow had five aces and 14 assists. Lauryn Benoit had eight digs and Hailey Edwards seven for the Indians (1-3).

    • Cromwell outlasted Old Lyme 25-7, 25-12, 22-25 and 25-13 in the Shoreline Conference. Lexi Duddy had nine digs and six kills for the Wildcats and Marissa Smith added 10 assists.

    H.S. swimming

    • Taylor Gray won a pair of individual events as East Lyme defeated Norwich Free Academy 102-83 in the Eastern Connecticut Conference. Gray won the 100-yard freestyle (59.95 seconds) and 100 breaststroke (1:12.79) for the Vikings (2-0, 2-0), who also picked up individual wins from Gretchen Stelter (200 free, 2:12.77), Maeve Counter (200 IM, 2:29.90), Kate Orefice (50 free, 28.34), Mary Kathryn Taylor (100 butterfly, 1:06.79), Alexis Dumais (500 free, 6:04.28) and Emma Vlaun (100 backstroke, 1:11.20). Jocelyn McNally won the diving competition for NFA (0-3, 0-2) with 169.50 points.

    • Elyse Gathy won the 500 free and 200 free to help Waterford defeat Ledyard, 96-72. Tori Zane added victories in the 50 free and 100 fly for the Lancers (2-0, 2-0 ECC). Olivia Strelevitz captured the 100 free and 100 back for the Colonels (0-2, 0-2). Maddie Johanson (200 IM, 100 breast) also won two events for Ledyard.

    H.S. field hockey

    • Rachel Silva's goal was all East Lyme could muster in a 5-1 loss to North Branford. The Vikings are 1-2.

    College field hockey

    • Anna Middendorf's second goal of the game with time expired in regulation lifted No. 5 UConn to a 2-1 win over No. 13 Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va. Middendorf gave the Huskies (6-0) a 1-0 lead in the third minute, but the Lady Monarchs tied it midway through the second half. Middendorf then came through with the game-winner off a penalty corner for her team-best sixth goal of the season.
