    Local roundup: IronBirds beat Tigers 7-2 at Dodd

    Norwich — The Aberdeen IronBirds scored five runs in the top of the third inning and went on to beat the Connecticut Tigers 7-2 in a New York-Penn League baseball game on Friday night at Dodd Stadium.

    Reynaldo Rivera was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBI for the Tigers (2-2). 

    District 6 Babe Ruth (14)

    • Waterford defeated Groton 22-0 in the first round of the double-elimination tournament as Ryan O'Connell, Dan Driscoll and Payton McNichol combined to pitch a two-hitter. Matt Sanford, Ryan Bakken and Owen Coderre were the top hits for Waterford while Adam Berube and Kevin Csizmesic each had a hit for Groton.

    District 10 softball (9-10)

    • Alexa Collins pitched a no-hitter and Zoe Zito hit a grand slam as Waterford beat Montville 11-0 in a four-inning mercy rule. Grace Muti had an unassisted putout on the only ball hit in the infield. 

    Road racing

    • Nick Migani of Higganum won the Liz Harris Cannonball Run in Preston on Thursday night, finishing the one-mile course in 4:46. Jaclyn Sullivan of Jewett City was the top women's finisher, coming in ninth in 5:34. Also finishing in the top 10 were Rhys Hammond of Pawcatuck (5:01), Matt Dudley of Mystic (5:04), Alex Olendorf of Mystic (5:07), Christian Dubreuil of Preston (5:30), Wynn Hammond of Pawcatuck (5:32), Digby Ludlow of Preston (5:33), Thomas Olendorf of Mystic (5:33) and Bruce Christensen of Bolton (5:39).

    Correction

    • Adam Rainaud, who qualified for the 99th PGA Championship by tying for fifth at the recent PGA Club Professionals Championship in Sunriver, Ore., is no longer the assistant club pro at Black Hall Club in Old Lyme. Rainaud left the club to accept an assistant pro's position at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y.
