Norton, Mass. — Junior Alex Baltazar's goal early in the first half stood up as 4th-ranked Connecticut College defeated Wheaton College 1-0 on Thursday in a non-conference game between two of New England's top women's soccer teams.

Baltazar's game-winner came at the 2:07 mark off an assist from senior Alexa Tribelli. Goalie Bryanna Montalvo made three saves.

The Camels (10-1-1) have won three straight — all by shutout — since suffering their only loss of the season to Williams College, 1-0 in double overtime, on Sept. 30.

Wheaton is 10-2-1 overall.

In other games:

• Waterford's Claire Hurley scored twice in the second half as Coast Guard Academy beat UMass Dartmouth 2-0 in a nonleague game. Both goals were unassisted and the sophomore leads the team in points with 10. Rachel Boohar made two saves for her seventh shutout of the season for Coast Guard (7-6).

• Freshman Yamilee Eveillard scored two goals, including the game-winner with 2;26 remaining, to lead UConn to a 2-1 win over SMU in the American Athletic Conference. Erin Spillane had assists on both goals for the Huskies (5-6-3, 3-2), and goalie Courtney Hofer made five saves.

Men's soccer

• Mitchell College took a 1-0 lead on Zavier Veliz's first-half goal before Salve Regina rallied with two goals 1:12 apart in the second half to pull out a 2-1 non-conference win. Casey Kelly scored the game-winner in the 70th minute. Wheeler graduate T.J. Condon added an assist for the Mariners (3-7-1). 

H.S. boys' soccer

• Undefeated Guilford (11-0) rode first-half goals from Sam Dombrowski and Eric Lepeak to beat East Lyme 2-0 in nonleague action. Goalie Sean Heaney made seven saves for the Vikings (6-3-2).

• Josh Asalde scored twice as Grasso Tech beat Norwich Tech 4-3 in a Connecticut Technical Conference Charter Oak East game. Francisco Colon and Rob Holland had goals, Kevin Vasquez had two assists and Joel Potter made eight saves for Grasso (4-8, 2-3). Evan Socha scored twice, Mariano Alarcon had a goal, Ben MacKenzie had an assist and Don Duca made 14 saves for Norwich Tech (3-9-1, 1-4).   

H.S. field hockey

• Trinity Lennon scored two goals and had an assist as Stonington closed in on its ninth straight Eastern Connecticut Conference title with an 8-0 win over Killingly. Miranda Arruda had a goal and an assist and Daisy Williams had two assists for the Bears (9-2, 8-0). Abby Flakus, Olivia Feliciano, Hannah Pratt, Maddie Cassell and Casey Beaumenot had goals and Colette Dreher had an assist for Stonington.

• Hannah Chubbuck scored midway through the overtime period, leading Woodstock Academy to a 2-1 win over East Lyme in the ECC. It marked the first time Woodstock (4-5, 4-4) has beaten the Vikings. Katie Durkee scored for East Lyme (4-8, 4-4).

H.S. volleyball

• Ledyard beat Innovation 25-21, 25-16, 25-9 in a nonleague match. Sela Gill had 17 assists, Miranda Chesnut had nine kills and Cynthia Petersons had nine kills and two blocks for Ledyard (7-8).

Black Wolves' Culp retires

• Chad Culp, who spent 15 years in the National Lacrosse League, including the 2017 season with the New England Black Wolves, announced his retirement and will join the team as a scout. Culp had 14 goals and 20 assists in his final NLL season after being traded to New England from the Buffalo Bandits. "Chad had a storied NLL career," Black Wolves general manager Rich Lisk said in a release. "We are very excited and very happy to have someone with Chad's knowledge join the staff and our quest for the Champions Cup."
