A win and the Black Wolves are in NLL playoffs

New England is in position to clinch the final playoff spot in the National Lacrosse League’s Eastern Division with a win Saturday against the expansion San Diego Seals, a win that would certainly serve as a cure-all for the Black Wolves.

The Wolves won three straight from Feb. 7-March 3 to get to 7-4, before dropping the next three to Vancouver (12-9), Philadelphia (13-8) and Rochester (13-8).

New England (7-7) leads Philadelphia and Rochester, both 3-11, for fourth place in the East with four games remaining, but a win would be welcome in what is the Wolves’ final home game, serving to secure a playoff bid for the fourth straight season.

The Black Wolves would also clinch a playoff spot with losses by Philadelphia (vs. Calgary) and Rochester (vs. Toronto).

In last Sunday’s loss to Rochester, Reilly O’Connor had two goals and an assist for New England, while Callum Crawford had a goal and two assists. Crawford leads the team with 35 goals and 49 assists for 84 points, while O’Connor has set career highs for a single season in goals (23) and overall points (59).

The Seals, in the inaugural season of the franchise, lead the NLL Western Division with a 9-4 mark and have already wrapped up a playoff berth.

The Seals are led by Garrett Billings (15 goals, 49 assists, 64 points) and Dan Dawson (21 goals, 40 assists, 61 points). Former Black Wolves forward Kyle Buchanan has 24 goals and 34 assists for 58 points for San Diego.
