New London — Dylan Neisler was named head coach of the Mitchell College men's lacrosse program Wednesday, as announced in a press release from athletic director Matt Finlayson.

Neisler joins the Mariners following a two-year stint at The College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio, where he served as interim head coach last season. He takes over a Mitchell program that went 4-12 last season and graduated seven seniors.

"We are pleased to announce Dylan Neisler as our head men's lacrosse coach," Finlayson said in the release. "He separated himself from a quality talent pool because he is a proven recruiter, great leader, advocate for student-athletes and a gritty competitor. We are all excited to work with Dylan."

Neisler began his time at Wooster as assistant coach and offensive coordinator but was elevated to interim head coach in February.

"I would like to thank Matt, as well as associate ADs Kim Camara-Harvey and Todd Peretz, for the opportunity to lead the men's lacrosse program at Mitchell College," Neisler said. "I cannot wait to get started building upon the foundation set in place by former players and coaches. Mitchell is a special place and I look forward to beginning my head coaching journey here."

Prior to joining Wooster, Neisler served as defensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator for the inaugural season of men's lacrosse at SUNY New Paltz. He also spent one season as a graduate assistant at Concordia University Ann Arbor, as well as extensive time as a youth travel coach.

As a player, Neisler helped launch the men's lacrosse program at Lincoln Memorial University, a Division II institution in Harrogate, Tennessee. The four-year starter at midfield played in 59 career games and contributed 72 goals and 31 assists while posting three 20-goal seasons.

A native of Detroit, Michigan, Neisler graduated from LMU with a degree in exercise science. He later earned a master's in sports and entertainment business from Concordia.

• Cameron Maldonado scored the go-ahead run on a two-out wild pitch in the top of the ninth inning as the Norwich Sea Unicorns rallied to beat the Brockton Rox, 2-1. Drew Kron’s RBI single scored Ray Leonzi with one out in the top of the ninth for the Sea Unicorns (18-18). Also, reliever Jake Kabel allowed two hits, four strikeouts and three walks with no runs in 2.1 innings to earn the win, Andrew Gatland struck out both batters he faced to pick up the save and starter Finn Doherty scattered four hits over five innings with six strikeouts and no runs or walks. Marshall Whitmer allowed one hit over six innings with five strikeouts, a walk and no runs for the Rox (12-23) and Dangelo Ortiz’s RBI single scored Peter Messervy.

American Legion baseball

• Anthony Jessuck pitched 5.2 innings, allowing one run on two hits and striking out seven, and Quinn Sylvia earned the save for Waterford in a 6-1 victory over Danielson. Jackson Long got things started for Waterford with an RBI single in the second inning and Long, Anthony Martinez, Connor Rowe and Jack Lathrop each finished with two hits.

• The Padres beat the Tropics 13-2 in an Eastern Connecticut Major League game Tuesday. Brenden Cavaco, Connor Woodworth and Kenny Olszewski combined to pitch a two-hitter for the Padres with Cavaco picking up the win. Andrew Fogarty and Rich Cruz drove in two runs each for the Padres and Olszewski had a triple.

District 10 baseball (10-12)

• East Lyme defeated Ledyard 15-1. Cooper Siragusa had a triple, Kyle Cellemme and Ethan Chatrell had doubles and Benny Perkins, Bradley Ament and Alex Bonin all contributed with big hits for East Lyme. Brennan McGugan doubled for Ledyard.

• Carson Wheeler, Evan Spader and Bryce Williams each had two hits to lead Mystic past Montville 9-2. Spader, Holden Salemma and Braydyn Banks combined to strike out 10, limiting Montville to just four hits. Cooper Browne singled in a run and Brody Sobanko had nine strikeouts for Montville.

District 10 baseball (9-11)

• Waterford defeated Stonington 8-1 Tuesday. Christian O'Connor started the game, going two innings and striking out three batters. Griff Fiano, Reily Karasevicz, and Anthony Verzillo each had a hit and an RBI. Cormac Murphy singled and drove in Stonington's only run.

District 10 baseball (8-10)

• New London defeated Ledyard 13-3 in four innings Tuesday. Channing Ventarini pitched 3.2 innings and Angel Aybar closed out the game for New London. Carter Pope, Ryder Cizek and Lucas Martinez Garcia scored for Ledyard.

District 10 softball (8-10)

• East Lyme/Salem defeated Waterford 5-2 at Veterans Field in Niantic. Mikaela Richter was the winning pitcher, striking out 10 in a complete game. Kennah Perkins and Molly Gault each had hits and scored for East Lyme/Salem. Reese Firman struck out 11 for Waterford.
