    H.S. softball: NFA knocks off Waterford in ECC Division I game

    Norwich — Hailey Smith struck out six in a complete game performance and Aubrey Martin fueled the offense with a walk, two hits, two runs scored and an RBI, leading Norwich Free Academy past Waterford, 7-2, on Wednesday in Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I softball action.

    Melina Graziano contributed two singles and two RBI for the Wildcats (5-4, 3-1), who jumped out to a 5-0 lead, while Ava Boenig added a single and double.

    Charlotte Jessuck had a single, double and two RBI for the Lancers (8-3, 4-1).

    In other games:

    • Reese Main had a three-run double in the third inning and finished 3 for 4 with five RBI, powering Wheeler past Putnam, 14-1, in a Division IV game that went 4.5 innings. Isabella Deledda and Leah Cleary each had a walk, single, double and RBI for the Lions (5-1, 3-0).

    • Jillian Fugere had two hits, including a home run, in Fitch’s 6-5 loss to Coventry. Gabby Amaral and Zoe Cosmopoulos each added two hits and Grace Cosmopoulos had a hit and two RBI for Falcons (3-4).

    • Aleecia Helme chipped in a single, double, triple and scored four runs for Ledyard in a 13-2 win over Lyman Memorial. Kyra Manning had a home run and winning pitcher Lexi Lemmon, who struck out nine, added two doubles for the Colonels (6-3).

    • East Lyme swept a doubleheader from Killingly, 3-0 and 2-1. Abby Robinson pitched a no-hitter and struck out 12 in the first game and Grace DuBrava had two doubles and two RBI.

    In game two, Ava Korineck’s infield single drove in Mia Lloyd, who had double and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh. Robinson allowed two hits and struck out 10 while earning the win and Nora Blette had an RBI single for the Vikings (6-4).

    • Old Lyme improved to 7-1 overall, 6-0 in the Shoreline Conference, with a 13-1 win over East Hampton in six innings. Winning pitcher Emma Bayor tossed a two-hitter and struck out 14 and also drew four intentional walks at the plate while Magdalena Taylor had three hits and two RBI and Sybil Neary added a three-run home run, a single and four RBI for the Wildcats.

    • Abby Matheson tripled home Alex Crowley with the winning run in the top of the 10th inning and Griswold defeated Ledyard 6-5 Tuesday. Matheson finished with three hits, including two triples and three RBI, and also pitched a six-hitter, striking out eight. Bella Bruno (home run) and Elaina Conrad each had two hits and scored a run for Griswold (7-2). Mia Starling was 2-for-4 for Ledyard (5-3), which tied the game 5-5 in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single by Maegan Miller to score Starling.
