Ledyard - Police arrested a Preston man who they say led them on brief car chase through several streets early Monday morning.

Merrill M. Reels, 25, of 16 Watson Road, was charged with reckless driving, speeding, failure to obey a stop sign and possession of marijuana.

At about 12:54 a.m. police attempted to stop a vehicle on Whalehead Road in Gales Ferry. Police said Reels tried to elude them as he drove through several streets before he was stopped on Pequot Trail in Ledyard.

Police said Reels was in possession of marijuana.

Reels is out on a $1,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Superior Court in New London on Jan. 4.
