NL police arrest three in brawl

New London – City police arrested three individuals in connection with an altercation Tuesday night at 62 Jay St. that left one person injured.

Joseph Jones, 47, of 202 Colman St. was charged with two counts of second-degree assault and one count of third-degree assault and breach of peace.  Dawann Hooks, 33, of 7 Griswold St. and Alphanso Rattary, 50, of 62 Jay St. were each charged with second-degree breach of peace.

Hooks was taken to a local hospital for her injuries, police said.

Police were dispatched to the scene at 62 Jay St. at 10:39 p.m. after an assault was reported. Police said they heard the sounds of a commotion upon arrival and detained several people in connection with the incident.

After investigating, police determined that Jones, Hooks, and Rattary and Lorie Brown, 50, of 62 Jay St. were involved in a verbal argument that turned into a physical assault.

Rattary and Jones started a verbal argument and began to push each other, but witnesses separated them, according to the police.

Police said Hooks arrived a short time later and accused Jones of striking Brown. Hooks and Jones then began physically fighting, and Jones struck Hooks in the head with a portable oxygen tank.

Police and medical personnel gave medical assistance to several people at the scene.
