Norwich — Residents of Crestwood Manor, a senior citizens housing complex at 90 Broad St., were forced out of the dwelling for more than two hours after a resident there made a bomb threat.

Residents and staff said emergency personnel initially responded to the complex for a psychiatric evaluation medical call when the resident made a threat.

John Cimino, a tenant at Crestwood Manor, said he heard the threat as the resident was loaded into an ambulance. He said there are about 18 residents living at there.

A woman, who said she is the owner of the residential complex, declined to comment and referred all questions to police.

Police said they responded to the area shortly before 8 a.m. As a precaution the state police bomb squad, city firefighters and American Ambulance all responded to the scene. The bomb squad entered the building and cleared the scene at approximately 10:21 a.m.

Police also evacuated nearby homes.

Michael Bowie, who lives at 89 Rockwell St., said when he returned from getting coffee and visiting a sick friend, he found a slew of emergency personnel in front of his home.

Bowie said his neighbors at Crestwood are quiet and he has never had a problem with them.

“It’s a bit troubling seeing a bomb squad truck parked in front of your house,” said Bowie. “It certainly doesn’t give you a warm and fuzzy feeling inside.”

Police said the case is under investigation and would not say if any charges would be lodged.
