Man charged after damaging glass Mohegan Sun sculpture
Mohegan - A Massachusetts man was arrested Sunday at Mohegan Sun after police said he damaged the 25-foot-tall River Blue glass sculpture created by world-renowned artist Dale Chihuly.
Dennis Griggs, 24, of Abington, was charged with first-degree criminal trespass.
Police at the Casino Unit said Griggs was hanging over a railing when he fell and crashed into the sculpture. Police said he did about $1,500 in damages.
Griggs is out on a $500 bond, pending his arraignment in Norwich Superior Court on May 23.
The 10,000-pound, 14-foot-wide sculpture is composed 2,500 colored glass components hand-blown by a team of artisans in Seattle and assembled on site in 2001.
