Groton – A boat that fell off its trailer Tuesday forced a partial shutdown of Interstate 95 North, backing up traffic and clogging secondary roads in Groton.
The accident was first reported at about 2:20 p.m., when state police were called to the scene of the overturned boat in the area of Exit 89. Crews spent several hours working at the scene while traffic piled up. Traffic was still a problem in areas at 6 p.m.
Motorists trying to avoid highway delays led to back-ups on Route 184, Route 12 and other side roads.
