Groton Town police investigate armed robbery at convenience store
Groton – Town police late Thursday were searching for the suspect in an armed robbery at the Henny Penny convenience store at Route 12 and Tollgate Road.
Police responded at 8:18 p.m. to reports that a lone white male entered the store, displayed a handgun and demanded money from the store clerk.
The suspect fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash, according to Groton Town Police Detective Lt. John Varone.
He was headed northbound on Route 12, according to a Groton Town Police press release.
Police canvassed the area with help from members of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service and police K-9 teams from Stonington, East Lyme and state police.
The white male is described as being in his early 20’s 5’5” to 5’8” tall and heavy set, with facial hair, with a distinguishing gap between his teeth, and wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt like jacket, grey pants, and black shoes, according to a the release.
He was wearing sunglasses and appeared to have black marks under his eyes. He was also wearing a pair of distinct yellow work gloves with black edging, the release stated.
No injuries were reported.
