    Woman injured when sailboat runs aground off Stonington

    Stonington — A woman was injured Monday morning when a 36-foot sailboat that she was on ran aground near Sandy Point, according to police.

    The woman fell and hit her head due to the impact, said Stonington Police Capt. Todd Olson. She was transported to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for treatment.

    Olson said the town’s police boat, along with Stonington Ambulance, went to the scene after hearing the call come in over dispatch at 9 a.m.

    The Pawcatuck Fire Department and Watch Hill Fire Department assisted, and the Coast Guard also responded. No additional information was available.
