Norwich police charge registered sex offender with probation violation

Norwich — Police said they charged a 51-year-old convicted felon and registered sex offender on Friday with two counts of violation of probation.

Robert T. Beemer, of 128 Broadway, No. 3, Norwich, was arrested on warrants, according to police.

The Norwich Police Department's community policing unit and detective division, as well as a probation officer from the Norwich Office of Adult Probation, made the arrest following a joint investigation, according to the police report.

City police said they learned that Beemer was at work in Groton. Groton City police found Beemer and took him into custody before turning him over to the Norwich police department.

Beemer was convicted on Nov. 27, 2000, of two separate counts and cases of illegal sexual contact of a victim under the age of 16, which requires him to be registered as a sexual offender for life, according to police.

Beemer is being held by Norwich police on a $300,000 bond, pending his arraignment at G.A. 21 court on Monday.

Police asked residents to report any activity they deem suspicious by calling the Norwich Police Department at (860) 886-5561 or the department’s anonymous tip line at (860) 886-5561, ext. 500.
