Stonington _ Police say a Tennessee man who they stopped early Monday morning for driving without his lights on had a pistol loaded with a high capacity magazine on the floor by his seat.

Police said they stopped Edward B. Littlefield, 29, of Rockford, Tennesee at 12:49 a.m. while he was driving north on Liberty Street. Police said that when an officer spoke to Littlefield he detected a strong odor of alcohol. Police said Littlefield also failed field sobriety tests.

Police said that when Littlefield exited his vehicle the officer noticed the gun on the floor of the driver's compartment. Littlefield did not have a permit for the gun, which was loaded with a 15-round magazine.
