Two accidents in Pawcatuck send people to hospital

Stonington — A motorcyclist was taken to the hospital Friday night and a driver was taken to the hospital Saturday morning, both after accidents on Liberty Street, Pawcatuck Assistant Fire Chief Chief Byron Stillman said.

About 9:30 p.m. Friday, a motorcyclist hit a car from behind at the intersection of Liberty Street, which is part of Route 2, and Elmridge Road, Stillman said. He said the motorcyclist had a serious leg injury and was taken to the hospital, but he didn’t know the motorcyclist’s condition. The driver wasn’t taken to the hospital.

About 11:30 a.m. Saturday, one car rear-ended another at routes 2 and 78 and fluid got on the exhaust system, leading to a car fire, Stillman said. He said one person was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening.

Stillman said the driver of the car that caught fire was out of the vehicle before first responders arrived.
