Preston ― A 39-year-old Norwich man faces charges that he sexually assaulted a 7-year-old girl.

State police arrested Antonio Vicente, of 6E Golden St. in Norwich, on charges of first-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor, or illegal sexual contact with a victim under the age of 13.

Vicente was arrested by warrant on July 18 following an investigation by the Preston Resident State Trooper’s Office into a March 6 report of a sexual assault at a home in Preston. The young victim had reported the assault to her father by phone who had immediately contacted police. Police said the girl’s mother claimed to have been passed out when the sexual assault occurred.

In an interview with officials from the state Department of Children and Families, the young victim claims she woke up to find her pajama bottoms down and Vicente sexually assaulting her.

Vicente remains held on a $500,000 bond.
