    Two charged with robbery, assault at Groton hotel

    Groton ― Town Police arrested two people Sunday in connection with an assault and robbery at the Super 8 hotel.

    Police say they were called to the hotel at 173 Route 12 at 9:50 a.m. on Sunday after a man called 911 to report he was assaulted and robbed. The victim was struck in the head with a pistol and sustained a laceration to the side of his head, police said.

    Police, who surrounded the hotel, arrested Angela Allen, 45, of Naugatuck and Miguel Costa Jr., 33, of 130 Noble Hill Road in Oakdale. A third suspect remains at large.

    Costa, who was held on a $150,000 bond, was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, first-degree larceny, first-degree robbery, first-degree unlawful restraint, second-degree assault, carrying a pistol without a permit and other charges. He was scheduled to appear Monday in New London Superior Court.

    Allen, who was held on a $100,000 bond, was charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit second-degree assault, possession of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia. She is due to appear Tuesday in New London Superior Court.

    During the investigation, police said they seized “numerous items of narcotics and related paraphernalia, in Allen’s possession.
