Groton man injured in Saturday motorcycle crash
Old Lyme — State police have identified a Groton man as the operator of a motorcycle involved in a wreck that temporarily closed a section of Interstate 95 south on Saturday.
According to police, 54-year-old Jimmy Wyatt of 109 Orion Ave. was driving a 2008 Harley-Davidson FXSTB south in the right lane when he veered right and struck a 2012 Lexus ES 350. Police said the car was parked on the shoulder between exits 71 and 70.
The Lexus’ occupants — Paul Cooperstein, 63, of Quincy, Mass., and Maria Merloni, 51, of Douglas, Mass. — weren’t injured in the crash, police said.
A Life Star helicopter took Wyatt to Yale New Haven Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. An update on his condition was not immediately available.
According to the state Department of Transportation, crews closed the southbound side of the highway shortly before 4 p.m. and reopened it about 5:30 p.m.
The crash remains under investigation.
