Police ID 21-year-old as victim of New London shooting

New London — A Florida resident who frequently visited New London is the man who died in a Saturday afternoon shooting on Orchard Street, police said Tuesday.

Police identified the deceased as Quvonte Andre Gray, 21, and said he often stayed in the city “for extended periods of time.”

Officers at 3:13 p.m. Saturday were called to 4 Orchard St., where they found Gray with a gunshot wound to the head. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Police, citing the need to gather more information, haven’t yet said whether the case is being considered a homicide. They still are seeking to question an 18-year-old named Jamir Johnson in relation to the incident.

Police Chief Peter Reichard said officers gathered good information from witnesses, but believe Johnson can help them determine exactly what happened.
