Norwich — A kitchen fire Friday night sent one person to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation and caused damage to a Church Street apartment.

City firefighters responded to 54 Church St., Apt. B, about 9 p.m. for a report of a fire at the residence. The blaze was located in the kitchen and quickly extinguished by the first arriving responders, according to a Saturday news release from the department. The kitchen was severely damaged by the heat from the blaze, which also caused moderate smoke damage throughout the rest of the apartment, the release said.

Fire marshals were investigating. No further information was immediately available.
