Groton Town police go live on state radio network

Groton — The Town of Groton Police Department has announced that it is going live on the state radio network this weekend, just in time for the Mystic Irish Parade on Sunday.

The project will lead to cost savings by enabling the town to maintain less infrastructure and by fostering work with other agencies using the state system, the department said in a news release. Police look forward to enhancing communications with Stonington, Groton Long Point, environmental conservation and state police.

The town first contracted with the state and Motorola Inc. in August 2018, and the change was funded through a Capital Improvement Project.

The radio tower located at the Town of Groton Police Department will be added to the state network, offering additional coverage, police said. The new system will remain connected to the legacy system as radios are tested and any issues are resolved.
