    Police arrest suspect in July 13 shooting in New London

    New London — At 10:36 a.m. Thursday, police arrested the suspect in the July 13 shooting on Walden Avenue, New London police said in a news release Thursday afternoon.

    Christopher Whitley, 32, of 207 Jefferson Ave., Apt. 3, has been charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault, unlawful discharge of a firearm, criminal use of a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm and first-degree reckless endangerment, police said.

    Members of the New London Police Department, Statewide Narcotics Taskforce, West Haven Police Department, Connecticut Parole and Connecticut Probation made the arrest at an apartment in West Haven and took Whitley into custody without incident, police said.

    The victim, an adult man, remains in the hospital.

    At 11:34 a.m. on July 13, police responded to 33 Walden Ave. for the report of a person shot, and found the semiconscious victim on the sidewalk. Police said the victim was shot at least twice, sustaining torso and leg injuries.

    The same day, police swarmed 207 Jefferson Ave., named Whitley as a suspect and released his photo to the public. On July 18, police said an active warrant was issued for his arrest.
