Ledyard — Town police are investigating an apparent suicide Friday afternoon in a dirt pull-off area in the vicinity of Route 12 between Route 214 and River Drive near the Gales Ferry School.

Lt. Ken Creutz said the incident occurred in a vehicle and the person involved was found dead at the scene. The person was the sole occupant of the vehicle, he said.

The medical examiner and officials from the state’s attorney's office were on site with officers, he said, and the nearby road was not closed to motorists.

Creutz could not yet provide any details about the person involved nor their vehicle. The incident was reported between 3 and 4 p.m. Friday, he said.

The death does not appear to be suspicious and there were no signs of foul play, Creutz said.
