Torrington man charged in 2020 firearms incident in Norwich

Norwich — City police have charged a Torrington man for a "shots fired" report last fall.

Rodrick Burgison, 22, was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, unlawful discharge of a firearm, first-degree reckless endangerment and first-degree criminal attempt/assault.

A report of "shots fired" on Sept. 27, 2020, brought police to the area of Merchants Avenue near Fontaine Court shortly after 3 p.m. that day. Police found spent shell casings on the ground near an apartment building. No one was injured in the incident.

"Initial information revealed the shooting appeared to be a targeted attack against the victim who lived in the area," a Wednesday news release from the department reads. "The investigation revealed Burgison shot at the residential dwelling as a form of retaliation for an ongoing dispute with the victim." Police did not publicly identify the victim.

After an investigation by Detective Scott Meikle, police obtained an arrest warrant for Burgison. He was arrested at an appointment he had to meet with CT Adult Probation in Torrington on Wednesday. He was scheduled to be arraigned at Norwich Superior Court on Thursday and was being held in lieu of a $100,000 bond.
