East Lyme — A fallen tree on Route 1 brought traffic to a stop Tuesday afternoon, police said.

The tree fell about 1 p.m. on Route 1 near Stone's Ranch Road amid a nor'easter that was pummeling the region with heavy rain, according to the East Lyme Police Department.

The road was entirely closed as crews worked to remove the tree. The state Department of Transportation was on the scene cutting up the tree about 1:45 p.m., police said.

Boston Post Road reopened at 1:46 p.m., according to the East Lyme Public Safety Facebook page.
