    Kitchen fire damages Pawcatuck home

Stonington — A fire that began on a stove damaged a home at 24 Rossi Ave. in Pawcatuck late Monday afternoon.

Fire Chief Kevin Burns said the smoke, water and fire damage will displace the residents of the home for a few days. The home is owned by John and Corinne Gomes. The Red Cross said it assisted the four adults who live in the home.

Pawcatuck firefighters and police responded to the fire at 5:26 p.m.

While it appeared police had put out the fire with a fire extinguisher, Burns said the fire had spread into cabinets and ended up causing heavy smoke, water and fire damage to the kitchen. Burns said the fire is being deemed accidental.
