Five-car crash caused minor injuries on Gold Star Bridge on Wednesday

New London — A five-car, chain-reaction crash at 2:09 p.m. on the northbound Gold Star Memorial Bridge caused minor injuries to four of the vehicles' occupants and damaged all five vehicles, state police in Montville reported.

According to the state police accident report, a BMW 535xi driven by Kendal M. Fluker, 44, of 239 Benham Road, Groton, was following too closely and struck a Subaru Impreza driven by Amalia Provatas, 20, of 320 Lestertown Road, Groton, from behind. That caused the Subaru to sideswipe a Nissan Pathfinder driven by Mallory C. Vewlks, 32, of 1 Islanda Court, East Lyme, on the passenger side.

The Pathfinder struck an Audi Q5, driven by Michael Dickerson, 21, of 61 Crest Drive, Mystic, from behind, and the Audi struck a Chrysler Pacifica driven by Allison Mattherne, 26, of 15 Bishop Lane, Groton, from behind.

Police said four of the six people involved, including a passenger in the Pathfinder, suffered “suspected minor injuries,” and all five vehicles were damaged. All five vehicles were towed from the scene, and all but the Nissan Pathfinder suffered disabling damage.
