    Local roundup: Fitch co-op beats Waterford swim team in season opener

    Waterford — Delaney Reck won the 100-meter butterfly and was part of two winning relay teams as the Fitch High School cooperative swimming program outlasted Waterford 88-77 Friday in an Eastern Connecticut Conference and season-opening meet for both schools.

    Reck won the 100 fly in 1 minute, 12.19 seconds for Fitch and was joined by Laura Letellier, Sian Crespo and Evie Conley on the winning 200 medley relay team (2:28.08) and by Olivia Flowers, Nora Niedbala and Valerie Conley on the 200 freestyle relay (2:25.60). The Falcons also picked up individual wins from Anna Orphanides (200 IM, 2:48.15), Chloe Main in the 50 free (32.79) and Addison Fulling in the 100 free (1:05.02).

    In another meet:

    • Natalie Bezanson won a pair of events during NFA’s 65-56 season-opening non-conference loss to Windsor. Bezanson won the 200-yard IM (2:31.18) and 100 backstroke (1:18.08) for the Wildcats while Stephanie Herr captured the 100 breaststroke (1:25.71) and the 400 freestyle relay team of Dianna Alacron, Willow Ludlow, Gianna Lennon and Stephanie Wells was also victorious.

    H.S. girls’ soccer

    • Hanna LeClaire scored three goals as Tourtellotte defeated New London 6-0 in the season opener for both. Italia Salls made 14 saves in goal for the Whalers, who were outshot 14-3.

    H.S. volleyball

    • Amistad outlasted New London 25-17, 25-15, 8-25 and 25-22 in the Whalers’ season-opener. Nalyce Dudley had eight service points, one ace, four kills, two blocks and 18 digs for the Whalers while Kmara Royster added seven points, six kills, two blocks and seven digs, Serenity Lancater had six points, six kills and one block, Keshvi Patel 11 assists and seven digs and Hildalyn Joran 10 digs.

    • Kassidy LaTour had 12 kills, eight assists and 10 digs to highlight Lyman Memorial’s 3-1 win over Haddam-Killingworth. Game scores were 25-17, 22-25, 25-19 and 25-22. Mia Attardi added nine aces, one kill, three assists and 18 digs for the Bulldogs (1-1) while Carlee DeRoehn finished with four aces, 10 kills, 12 assists and 14 digs, Arianna Garcia had 15 digs and Erica Arpin had 13 digs.

    • Montville blanked Killingly 25-22, 25-20, 25-14 Thursday night in its season opener. Reagan Buscetto had 15 assists and six kills, Ava Collins had four kills and three blocks and Zoie Farrar had had five kills, six digs and two aces for Montville.

    H. S. boys’ soccer

    • Morgan School spoiled Waterford’s season debut with a 4-2 nonconference win on Thursday night in Clinton. Donovan Bousquet had a goal and an assist for the Lancers, Matias Arcelus scored a goal and goalie Benjamin Dubicki made nine saves.

    • Evan Merchant scored three goals as Griswold opened its season with a 4-1 win over Tourtellotte on Thursday. Evan Christie also scored a goal for the Wolverines.
