    Local roundup: Quinebaug Valley edges Montville 21-14

    Putnam –Tyler Ladia threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Balancier and Anthony Barbuto scored on an 11-yard run for Montville High School in a 21-14 loss to Quinebaug Valley Friday night in a non-conference high school football game.

    Quinebaug (3-0) rode a big play attack to victory, with all three touchdowns covering 50 yards or more.

    Montville dropped to 1-2 overall.

    H.S. volleyball

    • East Lyme swept Fitch 25-17, 25-9 and 25-21 in the Eastern Connecticut Conference Conference Division I opener for both teams. For the Vikings (4-2, 1-0), Shae McMunn had 21 assists, Chloe Vaglio 10 kills and Skylar Bell 17 digs. For the Falcons (3-3, 0-1), Annalyn Cahill had seven kills and Trinity Sweat added eight digs.

    • Grasso Tech outlasted Windham Tech in five sets, 25-20, 25-12, 16-25, 23-25 and 15-9 in the Connecticut Technical Conference. Antonia Orbe had 19 service points, Emma Pavlak had 18 service points and Alandra Johnson added six kills for the Eagles (1-4, 1-3)0.

    • Abby Ulrich contributed 11 aces and five kills while Nancy Johnny had 13 assists and four aces in Norwich Tech’s 3-1 win over Ellis Tech in the CTC. Game scores were 10-25, 25-13, 25-23, 25-10. The Warriors are 4-3, 3-1.

    • Norwich Free Academy won a five-set marathon against Woodstock in ECC Division I action, with game scores of 25-22, 19-25, 25-21, 19-25 and 16-14. Evelina Klyukin had seven kills, four blocks and three aces while Ella Bean chipped in 16 assits and Norah Tracy had eight digs, five kills and three aces for the Wildcats (2-2, 1-0).

    • Wheeler rallied past Montville for a 3-2 win in ECC Division IV action. Game scores were 20-25, 18-25, 25-18, 25-21 and 15-6. Anna Ruggeri had nine aces, Skyler Morgan seven blocks and Abby Butremovic 23 digs for the Lions (2-4, 1-0). Montville is 1-6, 0-1.

    College volleyball

    • Coast Guard Academy dropped to 5-2 with a 3-0 loss to Tufts in non-conference action. Game scores were 25-11, 25-18 and 25-12. Senior Noelle Tursky and Sarah Somer had seven kills apiece while Maeve Duffin added nine assists for the Bears.

    • Connecticut College fell to Bowdoin College, 3-1, in the New England Small College Athletic Conference. The Camels lost the first two sets, 27-25 and 25-9, took the third set, 25-23, before dropping the fourth, 25-13. Riley Lord led the Camels (4-2, 1-2) with nine kills and Katherine Randall had six kills and 21 digs.

    H.S. field hockey

    • Sophie Ash scored the game-winning goal in overtime, lifting Fitch past Chariho (R.I.), 1-0, in non-conference action. Abriel Carey made eight saves for the Falcons (5-1).

    H.S. swimming

    • Elliott Singer finished first in the 50 freestyle (27.72 seconds) and 100 butterfly (one minute, 7.10 seconds) and also joined Sophia Pacheco, Laura Letellier and Chloe Main in the winning 200 relay team, leading Fitch/Stonington/Wheeler/New London past E.O. Smith, 88-65. Delaney Reck won the 100 freestyle (56.73) and 200 individual medley (2:22.80) while Evie Conley and Addison Fulling also were winners in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle, respectively.

    • Grace Xu finished first in the 100 butterfly in 1:12.20 to help East Lyme beat Norwich Free Academy, 84-67, in ECC action. Jennifer Park won the 100 freestyle while Lauren Hinckley took first in the 50 freestyle and Ruby Thoms captured the 500 freestyle for the Vikings (2-0, 2-0). Natalie Bezanson was first in the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke for the Wildcats (2-3, 1-2).

    College soccer

    • Connecticut College improved to 4-1-1 overall with a 5-0 shutout of UMass Dartmouth. Old Lyme’s Mya Johnson scored her team-best third goal of the season for the Camels while Camille Cortes and Indi Guckert each had a goal and an assist. Amanda Behre and Margot Kuller also scored.
