    Local roundup: Saints’ Tompkins reaches 1,000-point mark in victory

    Old Lyme ― St. Bernard’s Angelica Tompkins scored 41 points, including the 1,000th of her career, as the Saints beat Old Lyme 57-44 in a girls’ basketball game on Wednesday night.

    Tompkins, a junior guard, also had eight rebounds, four assists and three steals for the Saints (10-8).

    “It’s kind of amazing,’’ said St. Bernard coach Mike Nystrom. ”She only had a 12-game season as a freshman because of the COVID (shortened) season. As if doing it as a junior isn’t impressive enough.’’

    Ava Roth had 17 points, seven rebounds, six steals and four assists, Abby O’Brien had 12 points and seven rebounds and Sybil Neary had nine points and nine rebounds for Old Lyme (1-16).

    In other games:

    • Lyman Memorial beat Tourtellotte 55-29 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division IV game on Tuesday. Jenny Lopez had 14 points, seven steals and five assists, Taylor Pankowski had 11 points, seven rebounds and five steals, Phoebe Carpenter had seven rebounds, seven steals and seven blocked shots, Kassidy LaTour had eight steals and Kelsey Dunnack had seven rebounds for Lyman (13-5, 7-0).

    H.S. boys’ basketball

    • Parker Spencer scored 24 points to lead Waterford to as 74-61 win over Stonington. Juan Morel Jr. had 17 points and six rebounds, Logan Peabody had 11 points, CJ Landry had seven rebounds and Evan Piotrowski had 10 assists for the Lancers (6-12). Luke Lowry scored 28 points, Robbie Scavello had 16 points and Alex DePerry scored 10 for Stonington (7-10).

    • Williams School lost to Harvey 70-37. Calvin Neff had nine points, five rebounds and three steals, Jadiel Thomas had eight points and Robby Shay scored six for Williams (2-9).

    • Fitch rallied in the fourth quarter for a 49-41 win over East Lyme on Tuesday. Mikey Wagner scored 13 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter for the Falcons (12-4), who trailed 26-25 after three quarters. JJ Robinson had 11 points, five steals and six assists for Fitch. Brendan Osso led East Lyme (5-11) with 11 points.

    • Grasso Tech beat Vinal Tech 52-49 in a Connecticut Technical Conference game on Tuesday. Charis Johnson scored 16, Caleb Brennan had 12 points and Keron Wilson had 10 points for the Eagles (6-9).

    • Norwich Tech’s Jack Gahrman scored 25 points but the Warriors lost to Cheney Tech 93-75 in a CTC game on Tuesday. Malaki Mercado had 14 points and Josh Hanks and Collin Schultze had 11 points each for Norwich Tech (4-13).

    H.S. hockey

    • North Haven beat the Eastern CT Eagles 7-3. Owen Pazzaglia scored all three goals for the Eagles (5-7). Josh Bertelli, Kaden Casteel, Nick Rembish and Ethan LoVetere had assists and Cam McCollum made 41 saves for the Eagles.

    Men’s basketball

    • Mitchell College won its ninth straight game, beating Bryant & Stratton 84-69. Alfonzo Stokes had 18 points and eight rebounds, Waterford’s Mikey Buscetto had 14 points and 10 assists, Jalen Benson of New London had 17 points and Robert Zirlis scored 11 for the Mariners (19-3).

    • Coast Guard lost to Emerson 73-67 in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic conference game. Mitch Shettles had 19 points and nine rebounds and Declan Rooney had 15 points and eight rebounds for the Bears (4-18, 2-9).
