    High school track roundup: Waterford boys knock off Stonington

    Stonington — Evan Piotrowski won the 100, 200 and 400 meters and Elliott Childs took the 300 hurdles, long jump and triple jump as the Waterford High School boys’ track and field team beat defending Class M champion Stonington 79-71 Wednesday in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II meet.

    Stonington moved up this year from Division III to Division II.

    Waterford (1-0, 1-0) also took the 4x100 relay behind the team of Eden Alexander, Gabriel Lombardi, Maximus Seliokus and Orrie Hagerty and Rhys Tickner picked up a win in the high jump.

    Stonington’s Josh Mooney won the 110 hurdles, discus and javelin and Ryan Gruczka took the 800 and 1,600, as well as running a leg of the winning 4x400 relay. The Bears are 0-1, 0-1.

    In other meets:

    • Brady Bilheimer won the 300 hurdles, long jump and anchored the winning 4x400 relay, the final event of the day, to give Montville a 75-71 victory over Griswold in an ECC Division III meet. Enzo Valenti won the discus and shot put for Montville (1-0, 1-0) and Adonis Santiago took the 100, 200 and was second in the javelin. Michael Strain won the 800 and 1,600, Jacob Strain earned victories in the 400 and the high jump and won ran on the winning 4x800 relay for Griswold (0-1, 0-1).

    • Christian Wiltshire won the high jump and triple jump and Jonas Regondola took both hurdles events as Ledyard swept a tri-meet against Lyman Memorial (135-13) and Bacon Academy (85-65). Bacon beat Lyman 122-.83-27.17. Bacon’s Ryan Moores won the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 and teammate Jake Martino the shot put, discus and javelin.

    Girls

    • Kate Littler won the 800, 1,600 and led two winning relays as Ledyard swept a tri-meet, beating Bacon Academy 94-5-53.5 and Lyman Memorial 85-65. Lyman edged Bacon 75-73. Ella Stephenson (400), Josephine Withbroe (3,200), Linda Holeman (javelin) and Keara Opalenik (high jump) also won events for the Colonels. Leah Comeroski won the 200, long jump and triple jump for Lyman and teammate Emily McKelvey the 100 and the 300 hurdles for Lyman.

    • Izzy Northrup (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles), Tiana Bamber (100, 200) and Maya Suarez (800, 1,600) were double-winners for Montville in a 101-39 victory over Griswold in an ECC Division III meet. Hannah Suarez (high jump), Katie Myjak (long jump), MacKenzie O’Donnell (400), Kamryn Plikus (pole vault) and Sam Kuruchi (triple jump) also won events for Montville. Autumn Bedingfield, Devyn Pelillo and Madison Pudvah won events for Griswold.

    • Isabella Kimball (100, 200) and Avery Maiese (800, 1,600) each won two individual events and helped contribute to a relay sweep as Waterford topped Stonington 84-55 in an ECC Division II meet. Kimball ran a leg of the 4x100 relay for the Lancers (1-0, 1-0) and Maiese on the winning 4x800 team. Lauren Piotrowski won both hurdles events and Elizabeth Price (javelin), Ava Lee (high jump), Elle Dibuono (long jump) and Lauren Montenari (triple jump) also took individual wins for Waterford. Alec Anderson won the shot put and discus for Stonington (0-1, 0-1).

    • East Lyme’s crew of Aranza Torres (800), Kennedy Holsapple (1,600) and Maya D’Aquila swept the distance events in a 104.17-44.83 nonleague victory over Old Saybrook. Holsapple and Torres also contributed to a win in the 4x800 relay, joining Hannah Bergeron and Kayleigh Jensen. Lacey-Lee Keramidas (shot put, discus) and Lauren Hinckley (long jump, triple jump) were double-winners for the Vikings (1-0).
