    Local roundup: East Lyme softball remains unbeaten

    Fairfield — Arleen McKiernan’s two-run homer highlighted a four-run first inning for the East Lyme High School softball team as the Vikings topped Notre Dame of Fairfield 5-0 Friday afternoon, keeping East Lyme unbeaten at 4-0.

    Abby Robinson pitched a one-hit shutout, striking out 14 and walking two for East Lyme.

    Notre Dame is 3-3.

    In other games:

    • Caity Flynn and Autumn Hanks combined to pitch a two-hitter as Norwich Tech remained unbeaten with a 24-2 win over Putnam. The game ended after five innings on a mercy rule. Morgan Cook doubled, scored three runs and drove in three runs, Hanks homered and drove in five runs, Flynn scored three runs and Emily Grant scored twice and drove in three runs for the Warriors (6-0).

    • Stonington beat Wheeler 11-2. Melanie Verbridge had two hits and Bri Plew doubled for Stonington (4-2). Addie Stanley singled, doubled and scored a run for Wheeler (2-3), which made seven errors.

    H.S. baseball

    • Ethan Heinz and Connor Doyle had three hits and drove in two runs each as NFA beat E.O. Smith 11-7. Ayden Kempesta, Chris Southworth, Logan Deshefy and winning pitcher Jonas Tiburcio had two hits each for the Wildcats (5-1).

    Boys’ tennis

    • Old Lyme’s Cooper Munson won his No. 1 singles match over Westbrook’s Elliot Koplas, 6-3, 6-2, and the Wildcats went on to a 7-0 victory in the Shoreline Conference to remain unbeaten at 4-0 overall and in the league. Charles Hinckley, Griffin McGlinchey and Andy Sicuranza also won singles matches for Old Lyme and doubles wins went to the teams of Micah Bass and Aidan Kerrigan, Leland Hine and Alis Bicic and Mason Wells and Ryan Miller.

    • Waterford swept doubles play and beat Lyman Memorial 6-1. The teams of Quinn LeBelle-Louis Dhervilly, Colton Murch-Adam Balfour and Jayden Campisi-Michael Gialpis were straight-set winners. Cristos Matsas, Peter Colonis and Noah Westkott each won their matches 6-0, 6-0 for the Lancers (3-2). Ryan Miller won at No. 1 singles for Lyman (0-4).

    • Brady O’Neil, Jackson Conlon, Matthew Turrisi and Chase Donnarummo won singles matches in straight sets as Stonington topped Newington 7-0. The Bears (5-0) also got victories from the doubles teams of Conrad Tobiassen and Tucker Callahan, Peter Schoencker and Joshua Lord and Owen Grant and Brett Caron.

    • Jack Giurleo and Brendan Duhamel won singles matches in straight sets as Montville defeated Woodstock Academy 4-2. Nathan Dhillon and Jack Bowman won at No. 1 doubles for Montville (2-3). Montville got a forfeit win at No. 2 doubles and the No. 3 doubles match was not contested.

    H.S. girls’ tennis

    • Old Lyme remained unbeaten with a 7-0 win over Westbrook in a Shoreline Conference match. Sam Tan, Elaine Morosky, Callie Bass and Katherine Zhand won their matches for the Wildcats (5-0, 5-0) along with the doubles teams of Livie Bass-Alexis Fenton, Aggie Hunt-Beatrice Hunt and Izzy Reynolds-Natalie Buckley.

    H.S. boys’ lacrosse

    • Brady Brennan had five goals and an assist for Northwest Catholic, which handed Bacon Academy its first loss of the season, 13-5. Brayden Ward, Ethan LoVetere, Gavin Emmons, Jameson Pirro and Avatar Disher had one goal each for Bacon (4-1).

    H.S. girls’ lacrosse

    • Marin Mahoney had three goals and an assist and Katie Jamroga scored twice as Waterford beat Morgan 13-6. Madison LaForte and Adyson Wiseman had two goals each, Victoria Sturm and Sarah MacDougall scored goals, Clara Mahoney made six saves and Ella Bousquet had an assist for the Lancers (4-0). Maeve Madura had three goals for Morgan.

    • Lucy Fader finished with four goals, an assist, seven draw controls and six ground balls in Williams School’s 15-8 loss to King. Skylar Frost added three goals and an assist for Williams (1-3) and Amaya Butler had a goal and an assist.

    College baseball

    • Richard Barkley hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning to lift Coast Guard Academy past Clark 6-3 in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference. Barkley finished 3-for-4, John Carroll had a double and an RBI and John Thigpen pitched eight innings with eight strikeouts and one walk for the victory. The teams will play a doubleheader Saturday at Clark.

    • Daniel Rodriguez struck out 11 and pitched a complete game as Avery Point beat the Western Connecticut State JV team 12-1 on Thursday. Zach Mascaro doubled, homered and drove in four runs and Andrew Lozier was 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI for the Pointers (15-7).

    College softball

    • Coast Guard swept a NEWMAC doubleheader at Clark 10-0 in five innings and 9-1 in six innings, scoring eight runs in the first inning of the opener and continuing from there. Mariah Dewey had two hits, including a homer, in the first game, and Selena Serna and Christine Carey each doubled twice. Isabelle Shroyer (10-2) earned the win. In the second game, Coast Guard scored three in the first, highlighted by an RBI triple from Lillia Farlow. Dewey had two doubles and three RBI and Dana Walker (10-2) pitched a four-hitter for the win. Coast Guard is 20-4 overall, 6-2 in the league.
