Local roundup: Avery Point’s Ian Ratchford named baseball coach at Albertus Magnus

New Haven — Ian Ratchford, who guided the UConn Avery Point baseball program for the last four seasons, was named head baseball coach and coordinate of athletics facilities and operations at Albertus Magnus College on Friday.

Albertus Magnus is a Division III program and a member of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, which will include Mitchell College for the first time this fall.

"Ian Ratchford brings a diverse background as a coach and leader both at the collegiate level and on the summer circuit within the New England Collegiate Baseball League," Albertus Magnus athletic director Mike Kobylanski said in a release. "He has demonstrated an ability to support student-athletes on their academic and athletic journeys at the NCAA Division II and III levels, as well as the National Junior College Athletic Association. Ian is also extremely well-versed on the local recruiting landscape. We look forward to seeing Ian usher in the next chapter of our program in the coming years."

Kobylanski was the athletic director at Avery Point before joining taking over as the Falcons’ athletic director in 2022.

"I am extremely grateful for this opportunity to be a part of the Albertus Magnus community and look forward to creating relationships within the athletic department and the entire campus,“ Ratchford said. ”I am excited to get to work with our student-athletes, coaches and staff at this great institution."

Ratchford guided the Pointers to three postseason appearances and two Subdistrict titles during his four season at Avery Point and finished with a .613 winning percentage. He also spent two seasons managing the Danbury Westerners of the NECBL, guiding Danbury to its first NECBL championship in 2021.
