Local roundup: Waterford to play East Lyme in District 10 LL baseball championship round
East Lyme — Unbeaten Waterford will play host East Lyme in the District 10 Little League baseball (10-12) championship round beginning Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
East Lyme, which must be Waterford twice, advanced to the final by defeating Montville 12-1 in Monday night’s losers’ bracket final as winning pitcher Blake Gianakos had four strikeouts, Jayson Tejada drove in three runs and Kyle Cellemme and Eoin Hanafin had multiple hit games.
• Waterford advanced to championship round with a 2-0 victory over East Lyme on Sunday night as Christian O’Connor and Michael Valentino combined to pitch a two-hitter for Waterford while Noah Blatnik had two hits and Robert Sommers drove in a run. Brayden Santos had a double for East Lyme.

• Mike Bello (Auburn) went 3-for-5 and drove in a run as the Mystic Schooners defeated the Newport Gulls 4-1 in a New England Collegiate Baseball League game. Anthony DePino (Rhode Island) added a solo homer for the Schooners (15-10) and Drew Kron (UConn) added an RBI single. Newport is 21-7.
State Babe Ruth (16-18)
• Host New London and Stamford split their first two games in the Connecticut Babe Ruth (16-18) championship series and will play a deciding game for the state title on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Sal Amanti Field at Bates Woods Park. New London won the opener 6-4 before Stamford evened the series on Sunday with a 6-3 win. The winner advances to the New England tournament starting July 21 in Keene, N.H.
