Local roundup: Palmer wins Late Model race at the Speedbowl

Waterford — Saturday night’s storms created problems but couldn’t stop the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl.

Track officials had to scrap heat races and adjust the schedule before lightning shortened the Belltown Motors/Fowler’s Auto Wrecking 100 feature at the end of the night.

Winners in the Speedbowl’s regular divisions were Jason Palmer (Late Models), Aaron Plemons (Street Stocks), John O’Sullivan III (SK Lights) and John Bavolacco (Mini Stocks). Matt Hirschman won the shortened Belltown/Fowler’s race and $10,000 for the victory.

Palmer held off defending champion Ray Christian III after a caution with nine laps left. Andrew Molleur finished third. Al Stone III was second in Street Stocks followed by Tony Macrino.

Nickolas Hovey was second and Evan Bourgeois third in the SK Lights race and Christopher Garside was second in Mini Stocks with Jared Roy third.

Bryan Narducci finished second in the feature and Michael Christopher Jr., Kyle Bonsignore and Richard Savary rounded out the top five.
