    Local colleges: Conn College men open season with easy 6-0 victory over Hartford

    West Hartford — Connecticut College opened its men’s soccer season with an easy 6-0 win over the University of Hartford in a non-conference match on Tuesday afternoon.

    Matt Scoffone, assisted by Samuel Brockelman, scored in the 12th minute for the Camels, who held a 17-1 edge in shots during the first half but didn’t break the game open unil the second half when they erupted for five goals.

    Brockleman extended Conn’s lead to 2-0 just 1:32 into the second half (Gavin Vanden assisted) before Scoffone scored his second goal four minutes later on an assist from Matt Quiros-Newton, and the rout was on.

    Jack Creus would add two mores goals by Sam Boehm, assisted by Creus, scored the game’s final goal in the 85th minute.

    Conn outshot the Hawks 36-2 and hald a 10-0 edge in corner kicks.

    Field hockey

    • Camille Marshall scored a pair of goals in the fourth quarter as No. 7 Babson spoiled Conn College’s season opener with a 3-1 victory over the Camels at Silfen Field. Conn’s lone goal was scored by Bridget Mason in the second half and goalie Liz Winemaster made 11 saves in her collegiate debut.

    Volleyball

    • Salve Regina outlasted Conn College 3-1 in the Camels’ season opener. Game scores were 24-25, 25-17, 25-21 and 25-23. Riley Lord led Conn with 14 kills while Zoe Watts added nine and Emma Wheeler and Rae Wartelle each had eight.

    College honors

    • Mitchell College junior Bliss Brown was named Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week in women’s volleyball. The freshman helped the Mariners defeat Anna Maria and Curry, combined for 44 assists, 20 digs, 11 kills while averaging 5.50 assists per set.
