    Local roundup: Montville wins its sixth straight; Bell breaks EL digs mark in volleyball

    Old Lyme — Montville beat Old Lyme 3-1 for its sixth straight win in a nonleague volleyball match on Friday night.

    The Wolves (9-2) won 17-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-21. Mackenzie Payne had 2 kills, 11 assists and three digs, Anna Bubucis had five kills, four blocks and two and Alyna Ovalles had 12 digs for Montville.

    Grace Phaneuf had 33 assists and 11 digs, Peighton Andrews had 13 kills and 13 digs and Maya LeQuire had nine kills for Old Lyme (7-6).

    In other matches:

    • Skylar Bell set East Lyme’s record for career digs as the Vikings beat Simsbury 25-21, 21-25, 25-22, 26-24. Bell had 30 digs and three aces, giving her 1,004 and beating the mark of 997 set by her sister Madison Bell.

    Finnley Wilson had 12 kills and six digs, Abby Parulis had 15 kills and seven digs, Mia Williamson had 15 digs and Bella Diep had 37 assists and 10 digs for East Lyme (10-2).

    • Waterford won its 10th straight match, blanking Plainfield 25-7, 25-19, 25-20. Emerson Lane had 15 kills and seven digs, Jennie Macca-Barnes had 12 digs and seven kills, Danica Agsalud had 34 assists and eight digs and Ava Majeski had six aces and 17 digs for the Lancers (10-1).

    • Bacon Academy beat Killingly 3-1, winning 25-17, 15-25, 26-24, 25-18. Kiera Stewart had 17 assists, Sammi D’Atri had 26 digs and Carolyn Baehr had four blocks to lead the Bobcats (5-6). Addison Montville had 49 assists for Killingly.

    • Ledyard defeated Windham 3-1, winning 25-23, 18-25, 25-18, 25-22. Keara Opelinik had 13 kills, six aces and six blocks, Emily Peckham had 27 assists, Kylee Gill had 17 digs and Bella Schweitzer had nine kills for the Colonels (5-7).

    • Griswold blanked Lyman Memorial 25-19, 25-11, 25-16. Abby Matheson had eight kills and 22 digs, Ruby Logan had 25 digs and five aces, Kierra Neilson had seven kills, three blocks and three digs and Emma Brayman had four kills for the Wolverines (6-5).

    • Coventry swept NFA 25-18, 25-10, 25-21, in a nonleague match. Stella Hogan had 16 digs and six kills, Evelina Klyukin had nine kills and nine digs and Faustine Canales Arrieta had eight assists for NFA (9-5).

    H.S. girls’ soccer

    • Madeline Archer scored twice as Lyman Memorial beat Westbrook 3-0 in a nonleague game. Marissa Litwin had a goal and Avery Volle and Haley Cardinali had assists for the Bulldogs (6-2).

    • Plainfield scored with five minutes left to break a 2-2 tie and beat Wheeler 3-2. Plainfield led 2-0 20 minutes into play. Wheeler got a first-half goal from Katie Pierce and tied the game on a goal by Valentina Corrigan in the second half. Mya Comeau had an assist for the Lions (4-5).

    • NFA and Waterford played to a 1-1 tie on Thursday night. NFA (5-2-2) led 1-0 at halftime on a goal by Chloe Green and Waterford (7-1-1) tied the game with 25 seconds left in regulation on a goal by Adyson Wiseman. Ava Boenig made 11 saves for NFA and Colleen Sturm of Waterford had 15.

    • Montville lost to Haddam-Killingworth 4-3 in a nonleague game on Thursday. Sydney Cook, Alexa Tufares and Jada Cheung scored goals, Bella Estelle, Karissa Hochdorfer and Katie Koning had assists and Katie Myjak made three saves for the Wolves (4-5-1).

    H.S. boys’ soccer

    • East Lyme remained unbeaten with a 4-1 win over Morgan in a nonleague game. Robert Stoddard scored twice, Max Montejano and Finian Gates scored goals, AJ Montejano and Dominik Stefanski had assists and Ben Johnson and Oliver Lopez combined for four saves for the Vikings (8-0).

    Jeremy Medranda scored for Morgan (4-3-2) off a direct kick from 20 yards out in the first half, the first goal East Lyme has allowed this season.

    • Ben Syphrett scored three goals as St. Bernard beat Griswold 6-1. Jose Pacheco, Luke Brannegan and Ben Howes also scored and Tim Regan made five saves for the Saints (7-2). Justyn Blanchard scored and Aiden Plante made 10 saves for the Wolverines (1-8).

    • J.P. Fougerouse had a goal and an assist as Bacon Academy beat Waterford 2-0 in an ECC Division II game on Thursday. Colby Butterfield had a goal and Sam Melino had an assist for the Bobcats 3-4, 2-1).

    H.S. girls’ swimming

    • Elliott Singer won a pair of events as the Fitch co-op beat Ledyard/St. Bernard 102-63 in an ECC meet. Singer won the 200-yard individual medley (2:26.24) and 100 butterfly (1:07.37). Sophia Pacheco, Audrey Schrage, Mary McKenna and Laura Letellier also won events for the Falcons (5-0, 5-0), who won two relays behind Haley Singer, Emma Chasteen, Keira Freitas, Kaitlyn Kumpf, Letellier, Schrage and McKenna.

    Samantha Palmer and Thelma Grogan won events for the Colonels (1-6, 0-5) and Grogan, Anna Kate O’Donnell, Catherine McKenzie and Seidi Schiro won the 200 freestyle relay.

    H.S. field hockey

    • Nora Walsh scored four goals as Stonington beat Woodstock 7-1 in an ECC game on Thursday night. Paige Goebel, Charlotte Cornell and Abby Mayorga scored, Meg Harris had two assists and Lily Bellet and Maeve Oakes had assists for the Bears (6-1-1, 6-0-1).

    • Ada Ellis scored both goals as Fitch beat Killingly 2-0 in an ECC game on Thursday. Riley Harrington had an assist and Esme Carlebach made three saves for the Falcons (6-3, 5-2).

    College volleyball

    • Middlebury beat Connecticut College 3-0 in a New England Small College Athletic Conference match. Middlebury (9-4, 4-1) won 27-25, 25-18, 25-21. Zoe Watts had eight kills and four assists, Emma Wheeler had six kills and Riley Lord and Katherine Randall had five kills each for the Camels (8-6, 2-4).
