    H.S. roundup: Norwich Tech boys remain unbeaten with 3-0 CTC East win over Vinal Tech

    Middletown — Unbeaten Norwich Tech remained atop the Connecticut Technical Conference East Division boys’ soccer standings with a 3-0 victory over Vinal Tech on Friday afternoon.

    Roman McElwee had a two goals and an assist for the Warriors (9-0-2, 6-0-1), scoring both of his goals in the first half.

    Michael George, who assisted on McElwee’s first goal in the 10th minute, scored in the second half off an assist from McElwee in the 66th minute.

    In other matches:

    • Williams School and Christian Heritage played to a 2-2 draw in the Housatonic Valley Athletic League. Finn McGann and Brian Li scored for the Blues, both assisted by Liam Kelly, while goalie Lukas Lucht made six saves.

    • Waterford scored once in reach half and beat Montville 2-0 on Thursday night. Ian Rush and Griffin Neal scored goals, Jaydev Villa had an assist and Ben Dubicki made six saves for the Lancers (7-4). Adonis Santiago made six saves for Montville (9-2-1).

    • Louis Hawkins III scored twice and had an assist as Norwich Free Academy beat Woodstock Academy 5-2 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I game on Thursday night. Logan Jenkins and Jaden Perkins had goals and Remington Walsh and Josh Lavoie had assists for NFA (7-4, 2-1).

    Girls’ soccer

    • Mya Comeau assisted on goals by Katie Pierce and Valentina Corrigan to start the match and Wheeler went on to defeat New London 4-1 in ECC Division IV play. Leila Cherenzia and Leah Cleary also scored for the Lions (6-5, 4-1) and Hayden Bresnan added an assist. Christine Forestal scored for the Whalers (1-10, 0-3).

    • Williams took advantage of an early own goal and went on to defeat Christian Heritage 4-0 in the HVAL. Sarah Harvey, Skylar Frost and Marlee Anselmi scored goals for the the Blues (4-3) with Skylar Raymond and Katelyn Harvey anchoring the defense.

    • Kylee Morrison scored Grasso Tech’s lone goal in a 5-1 CTC loss to Windham Tech. The Eagles are 4-7, 4-7.

    Volleyball

    • New London avenged an early-season loss to Wheeler with a 25-23, 25-20 and 25-17 ECC Division IV win over the Lions. Wheeler (5-9, 3-2) beat the Whalers 3-1 on Sept. 25. Nyarah Dudley had 20 digs, five kills, two aces and one block for New London (8-8, 2-3) while Serenity Lancaster had 10 kills, 14 digs and three blocks, Raelyn Lopez had 18 digs, 11 assists and an ace, Malahika Paulo had 11 digs, four aces and 10 service points, and Mercedes Pratts had nine digs, two aces and 11 points.

    • Abby Matheson had 12 kills, 15 digs and one ace to help Griswold defeat Ledyard 3-0 in an ECC Division II match. Gretta Dombkowski added seven kills, six digs, one block and one ace for the Wolverines (8-6, 3-2) while Kierra Neilson had four blocks, three kills, three digs and one ace. Kylee Gill had 18 digs, Emily Peckham 14 assists and Keara Opelinik seven blocks for the Colonels (5-10, 0-5).

    • Waterford remained unbeaten in ECC Division II play with a 3-1 win over Bacon Academy. Game scores were 21-25, 25-22, 25-15 and 26-24. Danica Agsalud had 40 assists for the Lancers (12-2, 5-0) while Emerson Lane added 22 kills, five aces and three blocks and Brielle Kenney had seven kills. Kiera Stewart had 45 assists and nine digs, Maddie Meyer six kills, Meghan Walsh 12 kills and Carolyn Baehr seven blocks for Bacon (7-7, 2-3).

    • Old Lyme rallied for a 23-25, 25-19, 25-16 and 26-24 over Coginchaug in the Shoreline Conference. Grace Phaneuf had 32 assists and four kills for the Wildcats (8-7, 7-6), who lost to the Blue Devils 3-1 on Sept. 18, while Peighton Andrews had 10 kills and 14 digs and Maya LeQuire 11 kills.

    • Montville defeated Putnam 25-9, 25-15 and 25-9 in an ECC Division IV match. Mackenzie Payne had 21 assists and seven aces, Zoie Farrar eight kills and three aces and Keira Paradis seven kills for the Wolves (12-2, 5-0).

    Swimming

    • Ellas Pape captured the 50-yard freestyle (27.00 seconds) and 100 free (1:00.13) to highlight East Lyme’s 111-62 win over NFA in the ECC. The Vikings (4-1, 4-1) also picked up wins from Julia Morcos in the 200 free (2:12.44), Katelyn Haynes in diving (191.55 points), Makenna Harms in the 500 free (5:50.60) and Donna Park in the 100 breaststroke (1:21.48). Natalie Bezanson won the 200 IM (2:20.50) and 100 backstroke (1:05.95) for the Wildcats (1-5, 1-5).

    • Julia Gathy and Hannah Blomberg won two events apiece to highlight Waterford’s 98-66 ECC win over Ledyard/St. Bernard. Gathy won the 200 and 400-meter freestyle races while Blomberg added wins in the 100 breaststroke and 200 IM. Elizabeth Saucier added a win in the 100 backstroke for the Lancers (4-3, 4-2). Ledyard/St. Bernard is 1-7, 0-6.

    • Sophia Pacheco and Anna Orphanides won two events each as the Fitch co-op remained unbeaten with a 96-69 win over Hand in a nonleague meet on Thursday. Pacheco won the 200-yard freestyle (2:03.95) and 500 freestyle (5:36.56) and Orphanides won the 50 freestyle (26.30) and 100 butterfly (1:03.75). Jai-Lynn Wheeler and Kaitlyn Kumpf also won events for the Falcons (6-0). Laura Letellier, Audrey Schrage and Elliott Singer helped Fitch win two relays.

    Boys’ cross country

    • Wheeler ended its regular season with a 19-38 win over Fishers Island. The Lions (4-5) were led by the 1-2-3 finish of Trevor Scarchilli (18:41), Cameron Conway (19:52) and Jayson Krysziewicz (19:59), while James Noydes finished fifth (20:04.).

    Girls’ cross country

    • Wheeler defeated Fishers Island 23-34 in its regular-season finale. Sophie Zichichi won individual honors for the Lions (6-3) in 22:16, 14 seconds faster than Linda Rosenthal of Fishers Island. Kylie Melia finished third (24:02) for Wheeler, Carissa Browne was fourth (26:08), Rose Tardiff was seventh (26:49) and Kathy DelGrosso was eighth (27:44).

    Football

    • Jayden Carter threw five touchdown passes and rushed for another as Stonington remained unbeaten with a 63-22 win over Montville in an ECC Division II game on Thursday night. Dominic Ritacco added three rushing touchdowns for the Bears (5-0, 3-0) while Cole Phelan and Patrick McGugan had two touchdown catches apiece. Aidan Johnson threw a pair of TD passes to Izaiah Yard for the Wolves (2-3, 1-2).
