    Local roundup: Fitch tops East Lyme in ECC Div. I girls’ basketball opener

    Groton -- Meleeya Robbins scored 16 points and Gabby Dimock added 12 points and six rebounds in Fitch’s 50-30 win over East Lyme in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I girls’ basketball opener on Tuesday.

    Mariette El Khoury and Camila Singleton each added 10 points for the Falcons.

    Lindsay Todd had eight points for the Vikings.

    In other games:

    • Emily Orcutt scored 15 points in Norwich Free Academy’s 55-43 loss to Woodstock in ECC Division I. Eva Monahan had 22 points for the Centaurs.

    • Skylene Schoen-Rene scored 24 points to lead Bacon Academy past Waterford, 60-23, in Division II. Katelyn Novak had 19 points for the Bobcats. Lucy Walker led the Lancers with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

    • Angelica Tompkins chipped in 17 points and Zanfina Gjonbalay had 14 for St. Bernard in a 43-35 loss to Old Saybrook.

    • Hayden Bresnan scored 12 points and Morgyn Perkins added 11 in Wheeler’s 34-32 win over Putnam in Division IV action.

    Girls’ hockey

    • Sophia Gouveia (Wheeler) scored two goals to help lift Woodstock Co-op past Fairfield Ludlowe/Warde in girls’ hockey action. Mia Williamson (East Lyme) also had a goal and an assist and Paige Hinckley (East Lyme) had two assists.

    College honors

    • Four members of the Connecticut College volleyball team have earned Academic All-District accolades as announced by the College Sports Communicators. Seniors Emma Wheeler and Natasha Shrivastava, junior Katherine Randall sophomore Riley Lord were among those honored. Wheeler, Shrivastava and Randall were repeat selections, while Lord earned the distinction for the first time.

    The 2023 Academic All-District Volleyball teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes volleyball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
