    Local roundup: Saints topple ECC Division IV rival Bulldogs in girls’ basketball

    Montville -- Angelica Tompkins scored 14 points to help St. Bernard beat Lyman Memorial 42-32 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division IV girls’ basketball game Wednesday.

    Maddie Scribner had 12 points, all in the second half, for the Saints, who improved to 2-4 overall, 2-0 in the division.

    Jenny Lopez had 16 points for Lyman Memorial (4-2, 2-1).

    The game pitted two teams that competed for the Division IV title last season, with Lyman emerging as the regular-season champion for the first time since 2016.

    In other games:

    • Old Lyme lost to Haddam-Killingworth 51-25 in Shoreline Conference action. Kanon Oharu had 11 points and Ava Roth added eight for the Wildcats (5-1).

    • Grasso Tech lost to Ellis Tech 38-11 on Tuesday. Melanie Hernandez led the Eagles (1-4) with five points.

    H.S. boys’ basketball

    • Robbie Scavello scored 46 points to power Stonington past Killingly 70-64 in a Division III game. The Bears climbed to 5-1, 3-0.

    • Eddie Fiske scored 25 points while Eli Sahadi had 12 and Leland Hine added 11 in Old Lyme’s 74-46 win over Old Saybrook in Shoreline Conference action. The Wildcats are 5-1, 4-0.

    H.S. wrestling

    • Norwich Free Academy rolled past Woodstock 78-3 with Harper Barile (113), Brock Nowakowski (120), Jackson Sorel (132), Edward Lavoie (138), Dugan Marsh (144), John Dexter (150), Logan Jenkins (175), Zaire Wallace (190) and Rhys Surprenant (215) posting wins for the Wildcats (11-2, 2-0) in the Division I match.

    • Chloe Leonardi earned a win at 106 and Adrian Adames won at 113 in Montville’s 30-23 win over Putnam in a Division III match. Christian Hall (132), James Linder Jr. (144) and Luke Chapman (157) also won their matches for the Wolves (2-7, 1-0).

    • New London beat Waterford 63-17 in ECC Division II action to improve to 6-0 overall, 1-0 in the division. Jose Negron-Ortiz (113), Masyn Smith (120), Alejandro Torres (126), Jeremy Ruiz (132), Shea Quashie (138), Jaquis Lee (144), Christian Ortiz (157), Treyvon Lewellen (175), Jhandel Marchial (190) and Kaiden Smith (215) earned wins for the Whalers.

    Lucas Gannotti (150), Devon Powers (165) and Camden DelGrosso (106) won their matches for Waterford (6-2, 0-1).

    • Seth Christie (120), Vincent Andreozzi (126) and Jeffrey Bentley (138) won by fall in Griswold/Wheeler’s 71-9 victory over Bacon Academy in ECC Division III. Caleb Christie won by technical fall at 132 for the Wolverines ((8-4, 1-0). Carson Brown won by pin at 165 for Bacon (2-10, 0-1) and Dante Colella earned a decision at 175.

    H.S. boys’ swimming

    • Evan Hespeler won the 200 freestyle in 1:56.65 and 100 butterfly in 1:00.00 to help lift the Fitch co-op past Cheshire 69-50. William O’Donnell took first in the 200 IM (2:16.69) while John Chirico won the 50 freestyle (26.07) and 500 freestyle (5:57.48) and Sterling Welsh placed first in the 100 freestyle (55.86) for the Falcons (1-2).

    Men’s basketball

    • Coast Guard Academy suffered its first New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference loss this season, falling to WPI 73-54. The Bears (8-3, 1-1) trailed by 13 at halftime and shot just 34.6% from the field overall. Ben Yagey had 12 points and Cameron Brown added 10 points and seven rebounds.

    Women’s basketball

    • Coast Guard jumped out to a 29-11 lead in the first quarter and cruised to an 84-52 win over Mitchell College. Dorothy Stotts and Kira Wood led the Bears (10-2) with 17 and 16 points, respectively, while Kelly Hagerty had six points and 15 rebounds. Yasmine Santos had 24 points and 10 rebounds for her eighth double-double in nine games while Jamya Beddoe of New London added a season-high 17 points for Mitchell (2-7).

    Men’s hockey

    • Connecticut College and Endicott played to a 4-4 tie on Tuesday night. Devon Newhook of Conn scored with 2:27 left in regulation to tie the game. Jon Barker, Rocco Testa-Basi and Michael DiMascolo also scored for the Camels (3-5-1). John Russo, Sean Detloff, Logan Cleary, Shane Zarcone and Jack Luca had assists for Conn.
