    Local roundup: New London remains unbeaten in wrestling

    New London -- New London remained unbeaten a 50-22 win over Ledyard in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II wrestling match on Wednesday.

    Jose Negron-Ortiz won by decision at 106 pounds and Alejandro Torres posted a victory at 113.

    Other winners for the Whalers (7-0, 2-0) included: Jeremy Ruiz at 132, Shea Quashie at 138, Christian Ortiz at 157, Treyvon Lewellen at 165, Giovanni Da Silva at 175, Jhandel Marichal Devora at 190, Kaiden Smith at 215 and Henry Santana-Liriano at 285.

    Josiah Estriplet (120), Joseph Crader (126), Logan Storz (144) and Ryan Taggart (150) earned wins for the Colonels (5-3, 0-2).

    In other matches:

    • Gianni Pearson (120), Riely Georgian (132), Lincoln Carlson (175) and Brayden Soleau (190) pinned their opponents to lead East Lyme/Norwich Tech past Fitch, 49-24, in a ECC Division I match. Lance Stewart (144), Onyx Molina (157) and Brenden Vine (285) had pins for Fitch. East Lyme improved to 7-6, 1-0, while Fitch fell to 2-7, 0-2.

    H.S. boys’ basketball

    • JJ Robinson had 20 points, five assists and four steals in Fitch’s 65-35 victory over East Lyme in a Division I game. Xavier Goode had 20 points and 10 rebounds while Malakhi Sabb added 10 points for the Falcons (7-2, 2-1). Oliver Hibbard and Michael Timpano each had 10 points for the Vikings (6-3, 1-3).

    • Deondre Bransford scored 22 points and had 10 rebounds to spark Wheeler past Guilford, 56-54. Zane Brewer chipped in 16 points and Kyle Kessler added 15 for the Lions (6-2).

    • Henry Champagne finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds for Williams School in a 63-34 loss to Watkinson. Lance Jastremski added 10 points for the Blues (3-4).

    H.S. gymnastics

    • Ella Pereira earned first place in the all-around competition with 36.8 points, leading Killingly (135.65 points) past East Lyme/Waterford/St. Bernard (133.75) and Woodstock (125.35). Capri Sferrazza tied for second in the beam with a 9.3 while Olivia Gionet took third in the bars and beam with at 8.6 and 8.9, respectively, for the East Lyme co-op (2-1, 2-1).

    Women’s basketball

    • Yasmine Santos had 36 points and 15 rebounds for Mitchell College in an 86-68 loss to Albertus Magnus in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action. Alexia Watson scored 13 points and added 15 rebounds while Lyliana Daly had nine points and 12 rebounds for the Mariners (2-9, 0-3), who suffered their seventh straight defeat.

    • Kira Wood scored 26 points and made six 3-pointers in Coast Guard Academy’s 69-68 loss to Wesleyan. The Bears fell to 11-3 overall.

    Men’s basketball

    • Jaylyn Clardy scored 27 points, eight rebounds and five assists in Mitchell College’s 74-69 loss to Albertus Magnus in a GNAC game. Robert Zirlis had 12 points and eight rebounds for the Mariners (3-9, 1-1).
