    Local college roundup: Stadheim leads Camels to victory

    New London — Seth Stadheim scored two goals as Connecticut College defeated Williams, 5-1, at Dayton Arena in a New England Small College Athletic Conference men’s hockey game on Saturday.

    It was the first season sweep of Williams in Conn history. Sean Dynan made 22 saves for Conn (7-8-2, 5-7-0).

    Conn dropped a heartbreaker Friday night, falling to visiting Middlebury 2-1 in overtime. Rocco Testa-Basi scored Conn’s only goal with 1:22 remaining in the second period, assisted by Steven Ardagna and Cole Eichler, but Middlebury’s Nolan Moore scored on a shot that bounced in off the post to tie the game at 1-1 and force overtime. Andrew Seaman scored less than two minutes into the extra session for the Middlebury victory.

    Men’s track

    • Coast Guard sophomore Josh Banks cleared 4.80m (15 feet, 9 inches) to win the pole vault at the New Balance Invite at UMass-Lowell. Coast Guard’s Preston Cecotti finished seventh. Freshman Ian Naff won the 400 (49.28), the sixth-best performance in program history.

    Women’s basketball

    • Kira Wood scored 20 points as Coast Guard defeated Wellesley, 71-41 in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference game. Glory Blethen had 15 for the Bears (15-4, 4-1) and Kelly Hagerty had 14.

    Men’s basketball

    • Coast Guard fell to WPI 74-67 in a NEWMAC game. Mitch Shettles scored 21 points, Declan Rooney had 10 points and seven rebounds and Ben Yagey scored15 for the Bears (11-8, 4-6).

    Women’s hockey

    • Casey Chesner gave Conn an early lead, but the Camels fell to No. 6 Middlebury, 4-2. Devon Galizio made 33 saves for the Camels (6-8-5, 2-8-2). On Friday night, Kylie McCarthy scored on a power play in Conn’s 3-1 loss to Middlebury, assisted by Casey Chesner. Devon Galizio made 20 saves for the Camels.

    Men’s swimming

    • Conn College lost to Amherst 170-118 in a NEWMAC meet. Justin Finkel, Evan Lyons and Cam Bizjak each won two events for the Camels.

    Finkel won the 200 butterfly (1:48.90) and 100 freestyle (O46.68), Lyons won the 1,650 freestyle (16:02.73) and 500 free (4:37.21) and Bizjak won the 1 meter and 3 meter diving competitions with scores of 259.95 and 251.92, respectively.

    Women’s swimming

    • Amherst beat Conn College 204-90 in a NEWMAC meet. Emma Lent was the only winner for the Camels, taking the 200 breaststroke in 2:28.49.
